GLAZES

Early Marblehead pieces were predominantly green and blue with a flat matte finish.   The distinctive Blue glaze became known as “Marblehead Blue.”    The 1919 Catalogue states that it is “a pottery which in it’s soft color tones reflects something of the little gay little gardens and the gray old streets, something of the rocks and the sea.” The colors described in the 1919 catalogue were “Marblehead blue,  warm gray, wisteria, rose, yellow, green and tobacco brown.”

In 1924 new glazes and colors are introduced in the small pitchers. The semi-gloss colors are described as “bright blue, dull blue, yellow, putty and other pleasing colors.”
