In 1904 Herbert Hall, MD established a small pottery program as a craft element of his Marblehead, Massachusetts therapy program for women with nervous disorders. The pottery became professionalized after the hiring of Arthur E. Baggs in 1905.

Marblehead Pottery was established in 1908 as a separate, for-profit enterprise.

Marblehead Pottery was sold to Baggs in 1915.

The pottery ceased operation in 1936.
