    Most Marblehead Pottery was undecorated.

In describing Decorated Marblehead Ware the 1919 catalogue stated that “its designers have tried to keep in mind the same principles of dignity, simplicity and harmonious color which distinguish the ware in general .  The aim has been to make the decoration part of the form, not merely a pretty ornament stuck on at haphazard.”

Designs were executed in simple schemes of three or four colors, sometimes with an incised outline and sometimes flat.

Subjects of decoration included flowers, fruit forms, fish, marine life, and ships.
